Nebraska football had a big day on Friday, as they held their Friday Night Lights camp at Memorial Stadium. At the camp were several key recruits, as well as current Nebraska players paired up with said recruits.
One of those key recruits was running back Justin Williams. The Georgia native was paired up with fellow Georgia running back and Husker player Gabe Ervin.
Williams is a three-star running back. He is the 42nd overall running back in the 2022 class, and the 49th overall player in his class from the state of Georgia per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. In addition to Nebraska, he also has offers from the likes of Louisville, West Virginia, Minnesota, and UCF.
What can Williams bring to the table for Nebraska football?
Measuring in at 6 feet, 200 pounds, I really like the way he runs. As soon as he finds a hole, he is able to scamper through it with ease. He had 1,486 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns for East Paulding High School last year. He would be the ideal type of running back for the Nebraska football offense. He is able to run hard and run quickly. He is the type of explosive running back that you need in today’s game. Especially in the Big Ten, being able to run the football is key. Just ask the Wisconsin Badgers.
I’ll do a separate article on what he could bring to the table down the road. The idea of him making a connection with Ervin intrigued me. Ervin was a key recruit out of the 2021 class for Nebraska football, and he was also one of three Georgia players to join the program. There is starting to be a Georgia connection for the Nebraska football program, and that is a very good thing.
The fact that Williams was paired up with Ervin on Friday is extremely important. They both come from the same state and played the same position. Having a peer recruiter in Ervin definitely works in Nebraska football’s favor. I’ll be interested to see exactly what comes of this and if Nebraska is able to get Williams to commit to the program.
