Nebraska Basketball Recruiting

Nebraska Basketball : Highly-touted recruit impressed with Huskers

Nebraska basketball has been able to get some big names to visit the campus over the last couple of weeks. One of those big names was center Gus Yalden.

Yalden is the third overall center in the 2023 class, and the third overall player in his class  from the state of Wisconsin per the 24Sports composite rankings. Is a four-star recruit. He has offers from the likes of Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Illinois, and Iowa.

What would he be able to bring to Nebraska? For starters, he is six-foot-eight, 240 pounds. He would definitely give the Nebraska basketball program some size on the inside. One of the things I really liked when I watched his film was his ability to back down in the post and be able to score. Scoring inside the paint has been a problem for Nebraska basketball, and it definitely reared its ugly head last season.

The IMG Academy product would also give Nebraska basketball size inside the paint. 6-foot-8 is not necessarily tall for a center. However, 240 pounds is certainly something that would benefit Nebraska basketball. They need to continue to accumulate size in the paint .Eduaro Andre is one of the only players on the current roster that I believe has that size. Yalden would be able to continue that trend of size for Nebraska basketball.

I’ll be interested to see where his recruitment goes. In speaking to the media earlier this week, he indicated that he really liked his visit Nebraska basketball. He indicated that he had a very positive experience with his visit.

“Part of it was location, but part of it was that Nebraska was one of the first schools that started to recruit me,” Yalden said. “I’m really glad I got the chance to come out here and take a visit.”

He also indicated that he was still close with one of Nebraska’s top commitments in Wilhelm Breidenbach.

“Heck yeah,” Yalden answered when asked if he was still close with Breidenbach. “I saw him today and afterward told my mom that I hadn’t seen Wil in forever. It was great to see him, and it brought back a ton of memories that we have together.”

I’ll be interested to see how Yalden’s commitment really takes off. He is obviously coveted by many basketball teams, and he seems to really like Nebraska basketball. One thing is for sure, recruits are beginning to really take notice of the job that Fred Hoiberg is doing.
