Nebraska Football: Huskers get their man in Richard Torres

Nebraska football has been busy on the recruiting trail in the last couple of days, and Monday they landed a commitment from a top quarterback target. 2022 three-star quarterback Richard Torres committed to the program on Monday. He made the announcement via social media.

Torres is the 59th overall quarterback in his class, and the 111th overall player in this class from the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite rankings. He had offers on the table from Kansas State, San Diego State, Tulsa, and UNLV. Thankfully, he ultimately chose Nebraska. He was recruited to the Huskers by Mario Verduzco.

The addition of Torres gives Nebraska football a couple of things at the quarterback position. For one, he gives Nebraska size. He measures in at six-foot-five, 210 pounds. Nebraska certainly needs that size at quarterback, and he has it.

Secondly, he gives Nebraska a quarterback that can scramble out of the pocket and make throws under pressure. In addition to that, he has a very strong arm. The combination of his ability to scramble and his arm will help Nebraska immensely. Once he identifies his target, he sets and makes his throw. And watching is highlights, it also appears that he can make throws in tight windows. This will certainly be beneficial for the program.

Where does this leave the 2022 class? The class itself is really starting to come into focus.  With two commitments in a little over a week, it seems like the visits that prospects took to the campus earlier this month are really beginning to pay off. Currently, the class ranks 59th overall nationally and 12th overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team rankings.

This is a big get for Nebraska football, as I believe Torres arm strength will ultimately be his bread and butter. This is something that Nebraska football has not had in their quarterbacks for quite a while, and it was smart of them to look for a quarterback who has both speed and arm strength.

Nebraska football had made Torres a top target for quite a while, and they were able to get their man. This is a big win for the program and this recruiting class.  I’m excited to see who else will fill out the rest of the class down the road. In any event, Nebraska football is doing a nice job of building the 2022 group.
