Nebraska football made a trio of offers to members of the 2023 class on Thursday, and that included four-star linebacker Grayson Howard. Howard is not ranked in the 247Sports Composite rankings but he is a 90 overall in the 247Sports overall ratings.
Measuring in at six-foot-three, 205 pounds, Howard is from Jacksonville, Fla. In addition to Nebraska, he also has offers from the likes of Arkansas, Cincinnati, Florida State, and Georgia Tech. He’s being recruited to Nebraska by tight ends coach Sean Beckton.
He recorded 105 tackles and a 1.5 sacks in eight games. He was a key part of the Andrew Jackson High School defense, and it is easy to see why.
In terms of what he could bring to Nebraska football, he is a very fundamentally sound football player. He does well in coverage, and also does well at reading plays. As soon as he sees either a ballcarrier or a receiver, he gets to his spot and is able to make a read on the play.
His speed is something that really sticks out to me. He is able to read a play, and then quickly close on the ballcarrier. That speed will definitely translate well to big-time college football
You heard me talk a little bit on Wednesday about how Nebraska football needs more players that can drop back in coverage as well as come up into the offensive backfield. Howard can do that, and he would fit well with the direction that Nebraska football is trying to take their defense. Nebraska needs to continue to try and get athletic playmakers on that side of the football. Howard certainly fits the bill in that regard.
What does the 2023 class look like?
Currently, the Nebraska 2023 recruiting class has one commitment in Benjamin Brahmer. It is certainly a start, but there is more work to be done within the class.
Nebraska is still building their 2022 class, but it’s nice to see that they are making an effort to send offers to the 2023 group. I will certainly be intrigued to see where Howard goes, and if Nebraska is in the running for things when all is said and done.
