A busy day continued for Nebraska on Wednesday, as they made a commitment from defensive lineman Hayden Schwartz. Schwartz is the 86th overall defensive lineman in his class, and the 80th overall player in his class from the state of Florida per the 247 sports composite rankings. A member of the class of 2022, he measures in and six-foot-four, 244 pounds.

Schwartz had an impressive offer sheet, one that included the likes of Nebraska, Michigan, and Missouri. In the end, he chose Nebraska. Most recently, he received an offer from Kansas on July 7. He does have football lineage, as his father Brian was a second-round pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1995.

He had a solid 2020 campaign for The Bolles School. He was  Jacksonville.com All-First Coast third-team pick. He totaled 14 tackles for a loss and four sacks.

What can he bring to Nebraska?

This is another massive get defensively for Nebraska. When I watch his highlights, I see a player that is able to explode as soon as the ball is snapped. He can read plays very well, particularly when it comes to the opposition running the ball. If a quarterback rolls out of the pocket, he does a nice job of pursuing, and is able to close on the quarterback quickly. When you think about how athletic Big Ten quarterbacks can be, this should be able to help Nebraska quite a bit.

His speed in addition to his physicality and his instincts should make for a successful career at Nebraska. I am not saying he is going to be a world-beater. I don’t want to place any unfair expectations on him, at least not yet. What I am saying is that he will be able to be a good asset to the Nebraska football defense.

Currently, the 2022 class is continuing to form. I like what Nebraska has in the class right now, and I expect them to add to that sooner rather than later. They are building a nice base

In the meantime, Nebraska that another key impact player on the defensive line in Schwartz. The fact that they landed him out of Florida is also a bonus. We’ll have to see if he stays, but I have a good feeling about his fit in the program, as well as his skill set. Although the class may not have big numbers in terms of commitments, I like the talent in the class itself.
