There was a lot to take in at Big Ten media days on Thursday, and Scott Frost certainly had a lot to say. One of the position groups he is most excited about heading into this season is the offensive line. We saw the youth of the offensive line on display last year during Rutgers game, and now it’s up to the position unit and the coaches to build on it.
Bryce Benhart and Turner Corcoran are two names that I am excited about in particular. I expect to see a fair amount of improvement at the position in comparison to last year. Now is the time for those touted offensive line recruits to really show that they are worthy of hype that they have been getting.
In speaking to the media throng on Thursday, it appears that the head coach is excited about this group as well. To me, this is one of the most important positional groups on the field. If they succeed, the Nebraska football offense will have a chance to succeed. If they struggle, the offensive unit will struggle. Nevertheless, this position unit is one I’m going to be watching in what is a crucial year for Nebraska football.
Frost pleased with progress of line
Frost seems to be pleased with the progress that the unit has made to this point, as well as the personnel that he has.
“You know it’s hard for me to pick just one position but Nebraska has always been known for Husker Power and the offensive line. We’ve recruited well on the offensive line, but it’s hard in this league to come in as an 18, 19-year-old and be dominant as physical as the Big Ten is. The group we have there right now is one I think we can build on. Coach Austin has done a great job. Zack Duval has done a great job with them. I expect that to be a strength this year and look forward to those guys playing on the field.”
As the coach mentioned, it is hard in this conference to be successful as a young player. He is exactly right that they have recruited well at the position, now it’s just about development. I’m looking for more physicality from the line this year. Physicality is the Nebraska football style, and that’s what’s going to win them football games
I will be intrigued to see how they do. This is going to be a big year for them, and it’s going to be a big year for the entire offense. There is enough talent on the offensive line. Now it’s up to them to prove they can make it in Big Ten football.
