In his press conference on Thursday, we were able to get some injury updates from Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost. Specifically, he talked about tight end Travis Vokolek and defensive lineman Casey Rogers.
Vokolek and Rogers were both present at the game on Saturday.
With both guys returning, this is certainly a good development for Nebraska football. Especially at the tight end position, this gives the program more depth. Even still, the tight ends have been performing well this season, as they are continuing to become an important piece of the offense.
Last season, Vokolek recorded nine catches for 91 yards.
Rogers is coming off a year in which he saw tremendous growth. He recorded 25 total tackles and a sack.
The defensive line has been one of the stronger points for the Nebraska football program this season. Having a guy like Rogers back in the fold it will be important for depth. Now an upperclassman, Rogers should figure to play a relatively bigger role for the program this season.
The roles of both players should increase sooner rather than later. As Frost noted, they should be returning in a short while.
Frost always plays injury situations close to the vest, but he continued to say Thursday that key contributors like tight end Travis Vokolek and defensive linemen Casey Rogers are “really close” to returning to action.
Vokolek and Rogers were both in attendance, but in street clothes, and Rogers wore a sleeve over his left knee.
This is certainly good news for Nebraska football. Especially as they enter the tougher part of their schedule, they will need all hands on deck. Having these guys back should allow Nebraska football some flexibility on both sides of the ball. It will be interesting to see what kind of impact they make down the road.
