Nebraska basketball has been doing solid work on the recruiting trail lately. Friday, that continued to be the case. They landed a commitment from 2022 three-star shooting guard Jamarques Lawrence.
Lawrence is the 33rd overall shooting guard in the 2020 class, and the eighth overall player in his class from the state of New Jersey per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He had an offer sheet that included the likes of Wake Forest, California, and DePaul. He was recruited to the Nebraska basketball program by Matt Abdelmassih.
From the sounds of it, he is a very solid shooter. He is not going to wow anybody with his explosiveness. He can however create space for a jumpshot. It sounds as though he is not going to be somebody that will attack the rim. It does sound like he will be able to be a spot-up shooter.
This is a good get for Nebraska basketball for that reason. Nebraska already has a bunch of players on the roster that can get out in transition. A spot-up shooter will be good to have, and allow for the program to be able to space the floor. For every explosive player, you also need players that you can rely on to be able to knock down shots. It sounds like that is what Nebraska basketball is getting in Lawrence.
The 2022 class is ranked 38th overall nationally and eighth overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports team rankings. They currently have four commitments, and I would expect that class to grow soon. Nebraska basketball has done a nice job of recruiting the past couple of classes. They currently have a solid base for next year’s class.
It seems like Nebraska basketball can rarely miss on the recruiting trail. The commitment of Lawrence on Friday is proof of that. Who will Nebraska basketball land next? That remains to be seen.
