As Nebraska football is locked in a tight battle with Ohio State, they received a form of a win prior to the game. They landed a commitment from 2022 athlete Jalil Martin.
Martin is a three- star recruit and currently holds a numerical rating of 86 in the 247Sports regular rankings. He had several offers from big-time schools. In addition to Nebraska, Boston College, Bowling Green, Colorado, and Illinois also extended an offer his way.
With this commitment, Nebraska now has nine total in the class. The class itself ranks number 77 nationally and 14th overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings.
Where will he fit?
I see him fitting in as a defensive back for Nebraska football. His athleticism is extremely noticeable. Measuring in at six-foot-three, 190 pounds, Martin has good speed. He would fit well as an outside corner, as he has good tracking skills. As soon as the ball is thrown, he goes up and makes a play. Nebraska has managed to recruit well in the secondary over the past couple of seasons, and Martin would certainly fit the bill here.
Furthermore, this gives Nebraska a defensive back in the 2022 class. This is something they needed. They took care of the offensive side of the football very well. Adding Martin certainly gives them additional flexibility in the secondary moving forward.
This is another win for Travis Fisher in the recruiting department. Fisher is one of the more solid recruiters on this coaching staff, and he has recruited the Chicago area well. It will be interesting to see how much Nebraska recruits the Chicago area moving forward. They have landed several commitments from that area, and it is beginning to become an area that they are successful in.
As Nebraska gets ready to close out this game with Ohio State, they can at least take comfort in the fact that they landed a key target.
