It seems like Nebraska football wide receivers Samori Toure disappeared a little bit over these last couple of weeks.. Though it was no fault of his own, he did not have as big an impact against Purdue last week as he did against Ohio State on Saturday. In fact, he was one of the many bright spots of the Ohio State game, as Nebraska football was at least able to keep it close.
He finished with four catches for 150 yards and a touchdown. For the math geeks out there, that’s an astounding 37.5 yards per reception. After a couple of down weeks statistically, he was able to put together his first 100-yard game since October 2 against Northwestern.
On the season, he has recorded 33 catches for 718 yards, and four touchdowns. He has a legitimate chance to become a 1,000-yard receiver for Nebraska football this season.
Getting national recognition
Nationally, Toure is beginning to get recognized. Monday, he was named to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List. This is an award that is given annually to college football’s best receiver. If he keeps up these types of performances, I can certainly see him being in the conversation to win the award. He dazzled on Saturday, and he has dazzled many times this season.
The wide receiver is a great example of why Nebraska football needs to continue to go after players in the transfer portal. Toure fits this offense perfectly, and has been quarterback Adrian Martinez’s favorite target. For all the talk of Nebraska football not doing well in terms of recruiting, they certainly did a great job in the transfer portal.
I’ll be intrigued to see what his future at Nebraska is. As for now, he has become a bona fide superstar not only in his conference, but in college football. Hopefully, he can continue to play at a high level over these next couple of games.
