Nebraska football was on the receiving end of some news Tuesday as running back Marvin Scott III entered the transfer portal.
The freshman had an up-and-down career for Nebraska football, finding himself in some starting roles in 2020. However, this year playing time was hard to come by for him. He did see some work in spurts.
This year, he received the most action against Wisconsin. He carried the ball nine times for 29 yards and a touchdown.
Another bright spot on the season for him was when he played against Fordham in the season opener. He carried the ball six times for 30 yards and a touchdown in that one.
Scott becomes the second Nebraska running back to transfer this month, joining Sevion Morrison.
I’ll admit, I’m a little bit disappointed at this transfer. Scott was a running back who I thought was decent. He had a good combination of physicality and speed and he also was able to find holes quickly. I am disappointed, but am I surprised? No, I am not. Quite frankly, as soon as Nebraska football relieved running backs coach Ryan Held of his duties, I foresaw this coming.
This is a situation where the transfer portal could really help Nebraska football. Nebraska went to the transfer portal a bit last year, adding key playmakers like running back Markese Stepp and wide receiver Samori Toure.
Nebraska could add another running back from the portal. I wouldn’t be surprised if they elect to do so. There has been a ton of movement in college football over the past couple of days, and I imagine that won’t change anytime soon
In any event, I wish Scott the best. I hope he finds a program that suits him in that he succeeds. He certainly has a lot of talent.
