As the news of visitors for Nebraska football continues to trickle in, they are having, in my mind. a very important visitor. Nebraska’s top kicking target is set to come to Lincoln this weekend. Timmy Bleekrode will join several important visitors for Nebraska.
Bleekrode received an offer from Nebraska earlier this week, and his statistics show you exactly why. He was a sound placekicker, going 15-of-18 on field goals last year . Bleekrode proved to be automatic from kicks of under 40 yards, going nine-of-nine. He was also 30-of-32 on PAT’s.
He doubled as a punter as well. He averaged 42.15 yards on 52 punt attempts. 13 of his punts went inside the 20 yard line and he had 11 punts of 50+ yards last season.
A perfect fit for Nebraska football
To me, it sounds like this guy can do it all. When you look at his statistics and compared it to what Nebraska football has had to struggle with, he sounds like a very promising player.
I understand that being perfect on kicks under 40 yards may not sound impressive. However, Nebraska football has struggled to get the job done in that area. You want somebody that you can feel confident in putting out there. Connor Culp was that guy last year, but it seems like he lost a bit of his magic.
Overall, Nebraska football struggled mightily on special teams last year. Whether it was punting, or kicking field goals, the Huskers just could not seem to get the job done. It was frustrating to watch.
Because of his versatility and accuracy, I totally get why Bleekrode is viewed as a priority target. Nebraska football really needs to focus on fixing up special teams. This is been a problem for far too long now, and they need to get the job done in this area.
If there was one commitment that I would really want Nebraska football to get from this weekend, it would be Bleekrode. The program needs to find stability on the special teams unit, and Bleekrode has shown that he can certainly get the job done. Hopefully, they will be able to land him if not this weekend then down the road.
