You talk all weekend about the amount of visits that Nebraska football hosted. Now, it appears that some of their work is beginning to pay off. Kicker Timmy Bleekrode committed to the program on Sunday.
Bleekrode was offered by Nebraska football earlier last week, and was one of the individuals who took a visit to the campus this weekend.
He will be a scholarship player.
This commitment fills a big need in several areas. For one, it gives Nebraska a talented, versatile special teams player. This is something that they have been struggling to find over the past couple of years. Now, they have one.
Bleekrode went 15-of-19 on field goals and 30-of-32 to on extra points in 2021. His best game of the season came in his last game on November 20 against Samford. In that contest, he recorded 11 points in total.
He does have a little bit of punting experience as well. He had at least 11 points of 50-plus yards in the 2021 season.
It is worth noting that Nebraska does not have a scholarship kicker on the roster currently. Truthfully, that is only a big deal in terms of numbers and trying to figure out the amount of scholarships Nebraska currently has. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy.
Nebraska football has desperately needed to fix special teams. Hopefully, the commitment of Bleekrode will be able to help alleviate the problems. The Huskers desperately need to find stability in that area, and this could be the start of it.
At the very least, Nebraska has brought in another kicker. Something tells me bleak Road will play a big part in Nebraska’s special teams.
