Special teams continues to be a point of emphasis for Nebraska football. Tuesday they landed a punter. After being offered by the program on Monday, Montana transfer punter Brian Buschini wasted no time in committing to the Nebraska football program.
Buschini’s statistics are extremely impressive. was named the 2021 FCS Punter of the Year and for good reason. He had a 43-yard net punting average and was able to put 30 of his 69 points inside the 20-yard line in 2021. That right there to me is a good sign. Nebraska football had trouble punting with consistency last year. It sounds like he will be able to bring consistency to the position.
As Nebraska football found out the hard way last year, field position is important. If bringing in a new punter can help them when the field position battle, then that is a victory right there in my book.
It is important to note that Daniel Cerni is still here as is William Przystup.
A solid get for Nebraska
Due to the fact that the above-mentioned names haven’t shown us a ton over the past couple of years, Buschini is an important get for Nebraska. Now, the Huskers will at least have somebody that has experience and accolades. When you have the chance to grab the punter of the year from any level of college football, you go and get him.
I love the fact that Nebraska football is continuing to try and get better on special-teams. They are identifying an area of weakness, and trying to make it better. In this respect, they are not sitting idle. Nebraska football still has a lot of work to do this week, but they have identified two big weaknesses on the roster so far.
I give them tremendous credit for at least trying to fix the problems. Not only that, I am impressed with the credentials of the players they have brought in. It should make for an interesting couple weeks of spring practice.
