Nebraska Football: Emmett Johnson is officially in the fold

In what has been a busy day for Nebraska football, they were able to land a commitment from 2022 three-star running back Emmett Johnson.

Johnson had been connected to Nebraska football for the last couple of weeks. They extended him an offer on Saturday, and buzz about  going to Nebraska had been going on before that.

Johnson is a three-star running back. He is the 80th overall running back in the 2022 class, and the eighth overall player in his class from the state of Minnesota per the 247Sports composite rankings. In addition to Nebraska, Johnson was able to get offers from Central Michigan, and Eastern Michigan. He also was able to get offers from smaller schools such as Montana State and North Dakota.

It may be worth noting that Ron Brown was Johnson’s primary recruiter.

The Huskers are getting a running back who can hit holes quickly and make quick cuts into the open field. In addition to his ability to cut, he is very shifty. He is difficult to bring down and can use his speed to make the most of opportunities in the open field. His acceleration is something that is instantly noticeable.

I see a running back who could be a very capable player for Nebraska. His decisiveness and the way he runs are two major parts of his game. Johnson is difficult to bring down, and I’m excited to see what he can do with Nebraska.

In the 2021 season, he rushed the ball 326 times, for 2,484 yards and 41 touchdowns. He put up smaller numbers in 2020, but he was just as impactful. He carried the ball 174 times for 1,151 yards and 12 touchdowns. Johnson was certainly an impact player at the high school level.

Overall, this is a good get for Nebraska football. I was afraid that he would potentially flip but that does not appear to be the case. Now, it is time to see if he can make his mark in what is a very talented Nebraska football backfield.
