Nebraska Football: Mickey Joseph is saying all the right things

Ever since Mickey Joseph got to Nebraska football as a coach a couple of weeks ago, I have really liked everything he has had to say. Everything that he’s talked about in his meetings and press conferences with the media have all resonated with me. Monday was no different.

Brian Christopherson of 247sports put out an article detailing more of what Joseph is looking for out of his wide receivers. Admittedly, the article was behind a pay wall. However, there was one quote in particular that I was really encouraged to see. Joseph wants his receivers to be friendly off the field. However, he wants to foster a level of competition on it.

I really like this. The wide receivers need to be able to step up and produce when called upon. Last year, I thought Nebraska was not able to get enough out of the wideouts. If Joseph can bring that workman -like mentality to the receiver room, I am certainly all for it. You can tell he really understands competition, and he also understands his own expectations. So far, he has been able to articulate them clearly.

So far, it seems like he is saying all of the right things and is able to push all of the right buttons. He also has a track record of getting the job done. That’s why I don’t really think Joseph is saying these things to the media with blind hope. He believes in these things and he wants to be able to get the job done. Joseph is going to do things his way, and that’s the way it should be.

I’m excited to see how he puts these things into reality on the field. The wide receiver room has a ton of talent, and there is no shortage of athletes for him to work with. Now it’s all about maximizing the talent. For Joseph, I think that’s gonna be his biggest challenge. If he can get these wide receivers to live up to their true potential, we could have one of the best wide receiving units in the Big Ten next fall.

As for now, it just seems like Mickey Joseph “gets it.” In comparison to past coaches, it is a breath of fresh air.
