As Nebraska football looks to figure out their quarterback position, a new clue may have given us a hint as to what the huskers want to do. Monday night, it was announced that former Florida State quarterback Chubba Purdy would be taking a visit to Lincoln on January 14.
Purdy’s name has been floated around as a potential fit for Nebraska. Mark Whipple offered the quarterback, and he’s now Nebraska’s offensive coordinator. Purdy suffered an injury in 2020, but was able to see the field a little bit. He saw 102 snaps, and went 27-of-53 for 219 yards.
Purdy only played 17 snaps this season before entering the portal.
Purdy fits what Nebraska football is looking for
When I look at some of his film, I like what I see. He is certainly a different quarterback than what Nebraska football has put under center the last couple of seasons. However, he shares the same sorts of skills that Nebraska football is looking for in their quarterbacks. He can make quick decisions, and he makes quick reads.
He is not a run-first quarterback. His game is more predicated on standing in the pocket and getting the ball out with quick and smart decision-making.
With that being said, Purdy can run the football when he needs to. However, in his case, it’s more about him scrambling to buy extra time in the pocket or as a last resort. Keeping plays alive and decision-making seems to be two of the things he is better at.
I would love for Nebraska football to land him. I think he fits exactly what Mark Whipple wants in a quarterback, which is why the latter extended him an offer. As many teams begin to figure out their situations at quarterback, Nebraska has seemed a little slow in doing so. I wrote about my frustrations due to the fact that things are moving so slowly.
It would be great if Nebraska football could seal the deal on January 14. In my opinion, his visit is going to be important for Nebraska as they look to figure out the quarterback position.
