Nebraska football has landed a running back. On Monday, Texas A&M transfer Deondre Jackson announced he would be committing to the program.
As a recruit, Jackson was the 56th overall running back in his class, and the 91st overall player in his class from the state of Georgia per the 247Sports Composite rankings. A member of the class of 2020, he committed to Texas A&M on June 16, 2019.
Jackson had three carries in five games during his two seasons in College Station. Jackson is a patient and physical runner. He also brings an element of speed to his game. Having all three of those qualities will certainly make him a go-to running back for Nebraska football. Measuring in at 5-11, 230 pounds, he uses his weight to his advantage. That allows him to play with the physicality.
Jackson reminds me a little bit of Dedrick Mills in regards to the way he plays. Mills was never the fastest, but he was very patient, and he played with the physicality needed for the Big Ten. Jackson certainly has that.
It’s no secret that Nebraska football has a very talented running back room. This is one of the positions where depth is not an issue either. Adding a guy like Jackson does a couple of things for this program. For one, it allows for competition within the room. Secondly, it allows for an experienced running back to teach the younger players what he knows. This is obviously going to be important for down the road.
Currently, the Nebraska football 2022 recruiting class ranks 52nd nationally and 14th overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team rankings. This class is certainly bolstered by transfers, as Jackson now makes it eight transfers in this class alone.
All in all, this is a good get for Nebraska football. Jackson certainly has the play-style needed for the Big Ten.
