There was a bit of Nebraska football news on Saturday, as Crystal Balls were put in for cornerback Dwight Bootle.
If that last name sounds familiar, it should. He is the brother of former Nebraska football cornerback DiCaprio Bootle. A member of the class of 2023, the younger Bootle is a three-star recruit. He has offers on the table from the likes of Akron, Arkansas State, and Coastal Carolina. Right now, Nebraska is a favorite in his recruitment.
The Miami, Fla. native received Crystal Balls from Brian Christopherson, Gaby Urrutia, and Andrew Ivins. They were all high-confidence Crystal Balls.
Bootle measures in at about five-foot-11, 170 pounds. When I watched some of his film, I saw a corner that was able to play physically, and come down and make a tackle. He was also effective on the outside. His speed allowed him to be productive in the both the run-stopping and pass-catching aspects of the game. In this respect, he reminds me a bit of his brother. Bootle has enough versatility to make up for his lack of height.
The 2023 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 22nd nationally and sixth overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. That is certainly an encouraging starting point for this recruiting class. I would expect them to add to it as the weeks and months go on. However, it’s encouraging that they have a nice building block for this class.
It will be interesting to see if Bootle will commit to the program. It sort of makes sense, considering his brother played here as well. Landing a corner from Florida would certainly be big for the Nebraska football program. Bootle certainly has a lot of talent, and he would fit in well with the current defensive style that Nebraska football employs.
