Nebraska football was able to add another four-star caliber player their roster on Wednesday. 2022 running back Ajay Allen committed to the program.
Alan is a three-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. However, he carries a numerical grade of 90 and is a four-star recruit via the 247 sports regular rankings.
Brian Applewhite was his primary recruiter. For Applewhite, this is another notch in his belt, as he looks to remake the running back room. Allen was first offered by Nebraska football on January 5. He was originally committed to TCU.
To me, this is an absolutely massive get for Nebraska football. Allen is not the biggest running back in terms of size, as he measures in at five-foot-11, 182 pounds. However, that does not stop him from being an impact runner. One of the things I noticed immediately when looking at his film was his ability to shift direction rather quickly. As soon as he got the football in his hands, he immediately began to attack and find running lanes.
One of the more signature traits of his game is his ability to bounce to the outside. That seems to be his favorite spot in terms of running the football. From there, he is able to use that combination of speed, and quickness in order to make defenders miss. This allows him to have great success in the open field and really provide an explosive playmaker in the running game.
Currently, the 2022 Nebraska football recruiting class is shaping up to be a really strong one. It now ranks 41st nationally and 10th overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports team rankings. Brian Applewhite and the rest of the Nebraska football coaching staff have done a nice job of remaking the running back room. They have filled it with playmakers, and that is something that is going to be extremely important moving forward.
Overall, the 2022 class is looking pretty good. Nebraska football needed contributors that can play right away, and they got their fair share.
