Nebraska football is going to get a visit from 2023 three-star linebacker Phil Picciotti. As noted in a report from Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, he will visit the Nebraska campus on April 9.
He is the 33rd overall linebacker in his class, and the 11th overall player in his class from the state of Pennsylvania per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. His three-star rating is a bit deceiving. He is an 88 numerically, which means he could be bumped up to a four-star rating very soon.
Right now, all the Crystal Balls have him going to Penn State. This is not surprising, given how well the Nittany Lions recruit Pennsylvania.
What could he bring to Nebraska football?
Measuring in at six-foot-three, 225 pounds, he is extremely physical. As soon as the ball is snapped, he is able to come down and make a tackle. His play recognition is extremely impressive. He is able to make an impact on both running and passing plays. Piccioti is very quick for his size, and he would be able to make an instant impact for Nebraska football.
He is the type of linebacker that Nebraska seems to really thrive with. Athletic linebackers are something that Nebraska has done well in recruiting over the past couple of years. Athletic linebackers are the way the game is trending towards and Nebraska should still continue to focus on stockpiling them.
Currently, the 2023 Nebraska recruiting class has three commitments. The class ranks 19th overall nationally and fifth overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
I’ll be interested to see what happens during this visit. Although he seems to be trending toward Penn State, it never hurts for Nebraska to at least get their name in his head. Piccioti is a very talented player, and it would be great if Nebraska football could steal him from one of their Big Ten rivals.
