The tight end position has a lot of potential as far as personnel is concerned. One of the tight ends who has been impressing over the course of spring ball is James Carnie.
Carnie was part of the 2021 Nebraska football recruiting class that had a heavy emphasis on tight ends. Carnie’s Nebraska tenure got off to a bit of a slow start, as he came to Lincoln still recovering from shoulder surgery. Now however, he is healthy and looking to make an impact at the position for Nebraska football.
Heading into this spring, Nebraska football will need to see who can step up at the tight end position. Carnie is a good candidate to do so, as the presence of veterans is no longer present at the position.
In a report written by Brian Christopherson of 247Sports on Monday, tight ends coach Sean Beckton elaborated about the progress Carnie has made. The coach indicated that he was impressed with the leap the tight end has taken. He compared the leap to where the tight end was last year in spring ball, as well as where he was at the end of last season.
A key piece for Nebraska football
The tight end has talent. For him, it’s just about getting healthy. He caught 38 passes for 594 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior at Norris High School. he was named to the Lincoln Journal Star Super-State team as well as the Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska team. The potential is there.
Nebraska football has focused on involving the tight end position a little bit more in the offense over the last couple of seasons. The tight end position is also one where health seems to be a factor. Carnie’s emergence could be crucial for the function of the tight end position. As long as he continues to build off where he is right now, he has a chance to be a key piece for the Huskers. A healthy spring ball should only make his stock rise.
