Nebraska football will have at least one guest in town for the spring game on April 9. Defensive lineman Trey Wilson will be in Lincoln.
Wilson is a member of the class of 2023. He is the 49th overall defensive lineman in this class, and the 60th overall player in his class from the state of Texas per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. Numerically, he has a high 88 ranking.
Wilson currently has no Crystal Ball predictions from lead experts at this time. He does however have 27 offers on the table. Oklahoma and Michigan are the two crystal balls that have been put in for him. Most recently, he was predicted to go to Michigan on November 28.
What could Wilson bring to Nebraska football?
Measuring in at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, Wilson can play of the edge. That appears to be the most comfortable position for him. In the highlights I saw, he was able to beat his man via the bullrush. He was not just a pass-rusher. He was also able to get into the backfield on running plays, and that allowed him to disrupt the offense.
Wilson is also very good at releasing from his blocks. If a play is behind him, he can quickly recognize this, and start his pursuit of the ballcarrier. This makes him a productive run defender as well. That type of reaction time and versatility would be a tremendous asset for the Nebraska football defense.
Currently, Nebraska football has been focused on building out the 2023 class. The class ranks 16th nationally and sixth overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team rankings. The class has five commitments, headlined by offensive tackle Gunnar Gottula.
The fact that Wilson is coming for the spring game is a good sign for the Huskers. The stands will be full, and there will be real football in the air. With the spring game being highly anticipated, this would be a good opportunity for him to see what Nebraska football is all about.
