Nebraska football had a productive spring game on Saturday. On both sides of the football, there were notable performances. One that popped out in particular was running back Anthony Grant.

Grant rushed the ball six times for 69 yards and a touchdown. It was part of 416 total rushing yards on the ground. Overall, the running game was strong on Saturday.

Grant’s performance was notable as he figures to be a main running back in the offense. He did several things that made his day notable. He was able to run with conviction, and immediately had a speed burst through holes that the offensive line created. He did not wait for a hole to open. Rather, he immediately started running downhill.

On his touchdown run, his vision was on full display. He started to run on the inside. Recognizing there was not much room at the second level, he bounced back to the outside. From there, he had a burst of speed. He was able to get to the outside and immediately find green grass for a touchdown.  The 62-yard run was his longest play of the day. It also gave fans a chance to see what Grant could do.

Grant played like he was on a mission for the starting running back job. Furthermore, he looked comfortable out of the backfield. He followed his blockers, and was able to power his way when it seemed like no running lanes were open.

In what was a strong day for the running backs overall, Grant played at a high level. There was a buzz surrounding his work ethic and experience all spring. Nebraska football fans were able to see exactly why there was so much excitement when the program landed him in January.

It still remains to be seen how things shake out in fall camp. Nevertheless, he was able to make a strong first impression in what is a crowded running back room.
