Akana is the fifth overall as the vendor in the 2023 class, and the top player in the 2023 class from the state of Utah per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He currently has no crystal ball predictions at this time.
Akana has 45 offers in total. In addition to Nebraska, he is getting attention from other top schools as well. Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, and Texas are just some of the schools that have offered him.
Measuring in at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds, Akana is the type of edge rusher that Nebraska football has been looking for. He has a tremendous burst of speed off the edge, and is able to use a variety of skills to get past his defenders. He can shed blocks well, in addition to simply bulldozing his way off the edge. Even if he does not get a sack or tackle, he is able to collapse the pocket and make the quarterback uncomfortable.
He would undoubtedly help Nebraska football in their quest for an edge rusher. He brings the physicality needed at the position, and he would allow them to continue building out that edge position. The edge position is its own category in today’s game of football.
Currently, the 2023 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 24th nationally and seventh overall in the Big Ten per the 247Sports Team Rankings. The class has five commitments in total. Nebraska football has a solid base for the 2023 class. Depending on how this visit goes next weekend, they may be able to make additional headway.
In any event, Nebraska football is continuing to be busy on the recruiting trail. Hopefully, we’ll see some names commit over the next couple of months.
