Nebraska football is set to have a couple visitors this weekend. One visitor whose name has recently popped up is former Texas Tech defensive lineman Devin Drew.
Drew played two seasons for Texas Tech. He recorded 55 tackles over those two seasons, and is coming off a stellar 2021 season. He tallied 34 total tackles in 13 games. His best game last season came against Houston in Texas Tech’s season opener. He recorded five tackles in that contest.
Drew measures at six-foot-two, 280 pounds.
What could Drew bring to Nebraska football?
Nebraska football needs help on the defensive line. With Casey Rogers entering the transfer portal, Nebraska needs to get some bodies on the line. What better way to do it then through the portal? Drew would give Nebraska experience on the defensive front, something they desperately need.
There is little doubt that Nebraska football needs help on the defensive line. Getting a player like Drew to come to the campus is certainly encouraging. As noted in a report from Brian Christopherson of 247Sports, Drew has a lot of experience in college football, and his time at Texas Tech exemplifies that.
He is a space-filler and someone that excels in goal line situations. Nebraska football can certainly use a player like that, especially when you consider the type of running back talent in the Big Ten. He could add size in the trenches for the program. In terms of defensive lineman, someone that is able to take away gaps from the running backs is a plus. In my opinion, they don’t need to get sacks, they just need to be able to stop the run from getting to the second level.
It will be intriguing to see what happens this weekend for Nebraska football. With two visitors in town, they are certainly looking to upgrade on the defensive side of the football. Although Drew has not put up major numbers, they are certainly respectable. With defensive line being one of the weaknesses of the program, his addition would be viewed as a big one.
