As Nebraska football continues to make offers, they made one to a player in the transfer portal on Wednesday. Former Alabama safety Kaine Williams tweeted that he received an offer from the program.
Williams entered the transfer portal on Tuesday per a report from Brian Christopherson of 247Sports.
To this point, Williams has not seen much action in his collegiate career. He appeared in one game for the Crimson Tide last season, and that came against Georgia in the national championship game, as he took on kickoff return duties.
Williams was a highly-rated recruit, as he was the 11th overall safety in the 2021 class, and the seventh overall player in his class from the state of Louisiana per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He was a four- star recruit.
What could Williams bring to Nebraska football?
In watching some of Williams’ high school highlights, he was a very solid player. One thing I noticed in particular was his vision. He was able to track the quarterback’s eyes as well as the football. As soon as it was thrown, he was able to use a combination of athleticism and good closing speed to make a play on the football. I can see why he was rated highly as a prospect.
Safety is a position Nebraska football has been looking to upgrade. Currently, the huskers do have talent at the position in Myles Farmer, DeShon Singleton, Noah Pola -Gates Marquis Bufors Jr. In my opinion, I would expect one of those players to transfer at some point, due to the fact that there is a lot of bodies in the safety room.
Although there are bodies in the room, there is not a ton of experience. This is why it makes sense for Nebraska football to go after a safety in the transfer portal. Williams certainly is a high-caliber player although he has not really shown it yet at the collegiate level, through no fault of his own.
I personally am intrigued that Nebraska was able to give him an offer, and I’ll be interested to see what comes of it.
