Nebraska football received some help on the defensive line Tuesday afternoon. They were able to land a commitment from former Texas Tech defensive lineman Devin Drew.
He made the announcement on Twitter Tuesday afternoon.
Drew comes to Lincoln after spending two seasons at Texas Tech. In 20 games, he recorded 55 total tackles. He recorded 34 tackles in the 2021 season. He was also able to recover a fumble.
This is a massive commitment for Nebraska football. They needed help on the defensive line and they were able to get it. Drew measures in at six-foot-two, 280 pounds. Although that may seem a bit small for a defensive lineman, that is the direction that lineman are trending in. Programs are starting to favor athleticism a bit more than they are size. Size is definitely important. However, athleticism is just as important nowadays.
With that in mind, this gives Nebraska somebody who can stuff the run as well as get to the passer a bit.
This is the second big defensive commitment for the program in the just over two days. The Huskers were also able to land former TCU defensive end Ochaun Mathis on Saturday.
Drew complements Mathis really well on this defense. Whereas Mathis is more of a pass-rusher, Drew can help fill the middle. That’s not a knock on him, I could just see him playing that role. That would be perfect for the Nebraska football defense as it would give that side of the football different but effective playing styles.
Currently, Nebraska’s transfer class ranks 12th in the country with 12 commitments in total.
Nebraska football has been busy in the transfer portal, and it has paid off for them. I will be interested to see how he fits on the defense. Nevertheless, he has a chance to make an immediate impact.
