Nebraska football made an offer to Texas defensive back Jordan Sanford on Sunday afternoon per Mike Schaefer of 247Sports.
Sanford is a four-star defensive back and has a numerical rating of 90 per the 247Sports Rankings.
In addition to Nebraska, he also has offers from the likes of Texas Tech, Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, and Minnesota. Right now, Texas Tech appears to be the school that is most in play.
He had 34 tackles, a forced fumble, and two interceptions for Mansfield Timberview High School last season.
Measuring in at five-foot-11, 185 pounds, Sanford plays best as a slot corner. He has excellent coverage skills, and that allows him to read the play quickly and get to his man. With the type of physical defense that Nebraska football plays, he would be a perfect addition on the defensive side the ball. Slot corners are important especially now that offenses tend to look deep down the field and look to create big plays.
This offer is certainly interesting as it falls in line with Nebraska’s desire to recruit more into Texas. We have seen an uptick in Texas recruiting. Nebraska is making a concerted effort to really recruit the area harder, and that could pay dividends. We have already seen more offers go out to Texas prospects over the last three months or so.
Currently, the Nebraska football 2023 recruiting class has five commitments.at the moment, The class itself ranks 32nd overall naturally per the 247Sports Team Rankings. I expect that number to increase as the program continues to build out the class.
I’m excited to see Nebraska football continuing to make a strong push into Texas. I’m also encouraged that they are focusing on the defensive side of football. The combination of those two things could be a recipe for success for the program. Brian Applewhite has done a nice job of planting the flag in Texas for Nebraska.
