Nebraska Football lands playmaker with Kaine Williams commitment

Nebraska football received a commitment from former Alabama safety Kaine Williams on Sunday afternoon. This commitment is part of a roster overhaul, as the Huskers have loaded up in the transfer portal.

Williams comes with four years of eligibility remaining, and he played on special-teams against the Georgia Bulldogs in the National Championship game in January.

He was a four-star prospect out of high school, and he was the seventh-ranked player in the state of Louisiana.

One of the things that is most intriguing about his commitment is his eligibility. He still has four years of playing time as he heads to Lincoln. This to me is a good thing. The Nebraska football coaching staff will have an opportunity to work with him and develop him. Getting a player out of the portal that is still raw but can be worked with is a win in my view.

A strong Nebraska football transfer class

Currently, the Nebraska football 2020 recruiting class has 13 transfers. The class itself ranks 12th overall in the country in terms of transfers, and 33rd overall per the 247Sports Team Rankings.

Williams joins a safety room that is very crowded. Miles Farmer will probably get the first safety spot. However, there could be a battle between the likes of DeShon Singleton, Noa Pola-Gates, Jaden Gould, and Williams for the second safety spot. There is depth at the position, and I do expect one of these players to be the odd man out.

Williams is a physical safety, and that should help the Nebraska football program quite a bit. He is able to hit well, and has decent skills in terms of reading quarterbacks and going after the football.

Any time you can get a player from the SEC with eligibility remaining, this is a big get. Williams should help solidify the safety room, as Nebraska football continues to remake the defense. Williams should be able to fit right in with this defense.
