Nebraska football was able to land a commitment on Sunday from former Alabama defensive lineman Stephon Wynn.
He played in seven games for Alabama, and recorded five tackles in the 2021 season. He did not see a ton of time as a starter for the Crimson Tide.
This is certainly a big pickup for Nebraska football for several reasons. People may see his lack of starting experience and wonder how good he can be. Alabama has a ton of depth everywhere. In a program with a ton of depth, even really good players get lost in the shuffle. I expect him to be able to play a large role for Nebraska.
As a high school player, he was extremely explosive, and he had tremendous speed for his position. Speed is something that Nebraska football is going to need on the defensive line.
The other factor to consider as far as this commitment is concerned is that he will be able to help Nebraska football’s defensive line immediately.
This is yet another commitment from the transfer portal for the Huskers. They have done a nice job of making the portal a priority, and that has allowed them to get impact talent. The defensive line has gotten a facelift in particular. They landed Ochaun Mathis from TCU, Devin Drew from Texas Tech and now Wynn all within the last month.
Nebraska football has a Top 10 transfer class at the moment, and Wynn certainly adds to that. They fille a bunch of needs with this commitment. For one, it fills the defensive line need. Secondly, it gives them experience defensively which is something that is important, especially when you look at the graduating seniors and departures.
This was a major get for the program, and it gives them a player with SEC experience. This is a year when Nebraska needs to win. Getting players like Wynn is certainly a good start to achieving that.
