The buzz around 2023 Nebraska football quarterback commit William Watson is continuing to grow. After a strong showing at a Pennsylvania camp last month, Watson appears to be trending in the upward direction. Reunited with Mark Whipple, Watson will now have a chance to make an impact in Lincoln.
The connection between Watson and Whipple was a major factor in Watson committing to Nebraska. That much is known already. However, there were questions as to how he would fit this offense. There have been knocks on Watson in regards to his size, which in my opinion seem a bit unfair.
In everything that I’ve watched on Watson, there is no doubt that the talent is there. He is able to get the football out quickly. In addition to that, his quick reads could be exactly what Nebraska football is looking for as they transition to a wide-open offense.
Watson sat down for interview with Zach Carp of InsideNebraska on Wednesday morning.
“He likes the fact that I’m a playmaker. He knows that I’m gonna make the correct read every time, and he said my arm talent is kind of like, that’s one thing that’s pushed over the edge of a lot of people. When it comes out of my hand, it comes out a little differently. It’s got what we call a little zip on it. Then, I can extend plays with my legs too. So the fact that you’ve got all of that… Offense is based around my type of style of play.”
Watson’s play style definitely fits the Big Ten. In particular, he fits what Whipple is looking for a offensively. It will be interesting to see how he develops, as I believe he could be a productive quarterback for Nebraska football in the not-so-distant future. He has all the tools to be successful in today’s modern game of football. How the Huskers use him will be important.
