Recruiting is heating up for the Nebraska football program and they are neck-and-neck with some solid programs for the recruits. One of those recruits is running back Dontavious Braswell.
Braswell is a four-star recruit. He is the 20th overall running back in his class, and the 33rd overall player in his class from the state of Georgia per the 247Sports Rankings. He is set to announce his commitment on July 2 per a report from Zack Carpenter of InsideNebraska.
Nebraska and South Carolina are the two programs that have really stood out to him in his recruitment. The Georgia native is being recruited by running backs coach Brian Applewhite and tight ends coach Sean Beckton.
What could he bring to Nebraska football?
Watching his highlights, it’s clear that he is a running back from the state of Georgia. Georgia running backs have this unique combination of being short, but physical and speedy all in one. His high school highlights reminded me quite a bit of Gabe Ervin’s. Braswell is a physical running back. However, he also has the ability to beat defenders with speed, and break tackles.
In my opinion, I really think that Nebraska football has a good shot at landing Braswell. For one, Brian Applewhite and Shawn Beckton are good recruiters. Beckton has done a nice job of recruiting multiple positions and not just tight ends. His track record is pretty solid when it comes to recruiting.
In addition to Beckton’s good recruiting, Applewhite’s has been solid in his own right for Nebraska. He has been able to bring in Riley V an Poppel from his Texas connections and Ajay Allen into Nebraska from his TCU connections. That combined with his vision for the running back room leads me to believe that Nebraska has a solid chance with Braswell.
Applewhite has been on a roll in terms of recruiting, and I don’t expect that to stop anytime soon.
It will be interesting to see where Braswell well decide to call home. Either way, it’s encouraging that Nebraska has made his top two.
