Nebraska football the good the recruiting momentum for the month of July on Sunday. Four-star edge defender Ashley Williams committed to the program.
Williams is the 41st overall edge player in the 2023 class, and the 19th overall player in his class from the state of Louisiana per the On3 consensus rankings.
The final recruitment came down to Minnesota and Nebraska, and Williams picked the Huskers. Texas was also thought to be a player in his recruitment.
He was recruited by Mickey Joseph and Brian Applewhite.
The edge rusher had 89 total tackles and 14 sacks for Zachary High School last year.
What can he bring to Nebraska football?
As soon as the ball is snapped, he fires off the snap and immediately goes to the ball carrier. Everything he does is aggressive, and that’s exactly the type of play style you want for someone coming off the edge. They need to be aggressive, and they need to be able to wrap up and make tackles. Ashley does both.
This is a player that will be able to help Nebraska football as soon as he steps on the field. There might be a bit of a learning curve, but there is no doubting his level of talent.
The Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 26tth overall nationally for 2023 and seventh overall in the Big Ten per the On3 recruiting rankings.
Nebraska football has really done a good job of solidifying the edge rusher position over these past couple of months. That has been an area of weakness for quite some time now. Not only have they addressed it, they have gotten some solid athletes into the class. This is a testament to the hard work done by the coaching staff on the recruiting trail.
Who knows what the next domino to fall will be. However, there is little doubt the Huskers are making waves.
