Tuesday marked another day of roster cuts in the NFL, and one former Nebraska football star managed to survive them. Linebacker JoJo Doman is a member of the Indianapolis Colts 53-man roster.
Domann had a successful preseason that saw him stand out. He played in two games, and recorded seven total tackles.
I personally thought it was a bit surprising that he did not get selected in this past April’s draft. He has the speed and instincts to be a really strong linebacker. Not only that, you know what you’re going to get from him every single game.
His unrelenting effort while on the field for the Colts reminded me of his days at Nebraska. He was a key piece of the Huskers defense, especially last year. I thought he was the glue that held everything together. His energy and instincts on the field were unmatched, and he truly was the heart and soul of the defense. In four years in Lincoln, he recorded 208 total tackles.
Domann really looked like a player that was built for the next level. Now, he will have an opportunity to join a Colts linebacker group that includes Bobby Okereke and Shaquille Leonard.
It is really exciting to see him get a shot at the next level. He will start on the bottom rungs of the depth chart per OurLads.com. However, he definitely has the skill to be able to move up quickly and take his talents to the next level.
Either way, his journey from undrafted free agent to making the roster is certainly something to celebrate. I’ll be interested to see the type of impact he makes on the Indianapolis defense. The Colts are known for churning out fundamentally strong defensive players and I could see Domann fitting into that category as well. This is certainly a day of celebration, for Domann and the program as well.
