There is a bit of recruiting news for Nebraska football as they head into the weekend. Top 247 athlete Malachi Coleman will be visiting Lincoln, as the Huskers take on Georgia Southern this weekend, per Allen Trieu of 247Sports.
Coleman has been a target for Nebraska for quite a while, and it seems as though he has developed a strong relationship with wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph. He views Joseph as a father figure, and told 247 that Nebraska probably would not even be in his top seven programs without Joseph.
Mickey Joseph is strongest connection for Nebraska football
Currently, Coleman has offers from the likes of Oklahoma, Ole Miss, USC, Michigan, Oregon, and Georgia. To say the Huskers are the underdog in his recruitment would be an understatement. This just speaks to how powerful Mickey Joseph’s ties are with the program.
Me personally, I like the fact that he is visiting this weekend. Nebraska should be able to get a solid win against Georgia Southern. I don’t think it’ll be easy, but I do think that they will come away with the victory. This could be a positive for Nebraska, as they look to reel in Coleman.
The biggest thing for me here is his October 22 decision date. That seems pretty obvious, but Nebraska needs to win several games before then to even have a shot. A win on Saturday would certainly look good with Coleman visiting, as Nebraska football looks to put together their first winning streak since last September.
It’s a positive sign that Coleman continues to visit the program, and one has to wonder where the Huskers really stand in the scheme of things. Hopefully, things will improve for Nebraska on the field between now and his decision date. Wins over the next couple of weeks could help Nebraska improve their chances for Coleman dramatically.
