Nebraska football wide receiver Trey Palmer has been added to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List after what has been a fantastic start to the 2022 season.
Palmer has been absolutely sensational. He has recorded 36 receptions for 480 yards and two touchdowns. He is coming off a performance against Indiana that saw him record eight catches for 157 yards and a touchdown.
He has been a dynamic playmaker for Nebraska football and has emerged as one of quarterback Casey Thompson’s favorite targets. It’s no surprise that he is being added to the list. I am more surprised at the fact that he was not on this list initially. The skill set that he brings to the table is extremely impressive, and it allows for Nebraska football to have a big-time target.
If can keep up the pace he is currently on, he could be a contender to win the award. He is averaging 96 yards per game, and that could allow him to put up even bigger numbers by the time the season is over. He is averaging 7.2 receptions per game, which is 10th nationally. I would expect that number to stay at a steady pace as well. The Nebraska football offense needs to get him the ball as much as possible.
In any event, it is great to see him on this list. Mickey Joseph is a great recruiter, and he certainly saw something special in Palmer. Palmer was one of the many former LSU commits that came over to Lincoln once Joseph got here. It’s safe to say that the decision for both parties is paying off.
Palmer is just so much fun to watch, and I can’t wait to see what does against Rutgers on Friday night. If Nebraska football wants to win, Palmer certainly needs to be in the picture, making plays at wide receiver. Something tells me he will be.
