Nebraska football had a busy day on Thursday, as three players entered the transfer portal. Linebacker Ernest Hausmann, wide receiver DeColdest Crawford, and offensive lineman Brant Banks all entered the portal per multiple media reports.
Hausmann made an impact in his first season with Nebraska football. He recorded 54 total tackles and had a solid end to the season. He began to get more playing time in the month of November and made the most of it. The Michigan and Wisconsin games were two big ones for him, as he recorded 10 and 12 tackles.
DeColdest Crawford came to the Nebraska football program for the 2022 season. He suffered an injury during fall camp, and missed the entire season. Crawford was a three-star prospect in high school, and was the 23rd overall wide receiver in the state of Louisiana, per the 247Sports composite rankings. Crawford was recruited by Mickey Joseph, and came to the program shortly after Joseph’s arrival.
Banks was a three-star recruit in the 2019 class. Nebraska football competed with Baylor for his services, and they were able to win out in the recruiting battle. Banks received playing time on special teams last season, appearing in all 12 games. He also managed to see action in the Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin and Iowa games.
Banks also appeared with the Nebraska basketball team during the Big 10 Tournament in 2020. He played three minutes against Indiana in the tournament.
This is the first level of attrition for the Nebraska football program. Hausmann in particular could be viewed as a big loss for the program, considering the amount of playing time he got last season. It will be intriguing to see who else leaves the program for the transfer portal, as a new coaching staff goes through their first week in Lincoln. and begins to rebuild.
