The Nebraska football program will be hosting several players for visits this weekend. One of the visitors will be offensive tackle Ajani Cornelius.
Cornelius was the first portal player to receive an offer from the new coaching staff, as noted in a report from Sean Callahan of HuskerOnline. Cornelius is the number two overall player in the portal, and ranks as the number one overall tackle.
Cornelius was the starter for the Rhode Island Rams at the right tackle position in 2021. He played well, earning All-CAA first-team honors following the season. The program went 7-4 this season. He has started in 22 games for the program in the past two seasons overall.
Cornelius measures in at six-foot-five, 310 pounds. He has been a hot name in the transfer portal as of late. He has offers from Minnesota, Syracuse, Louisville, Nebraska, and Virginia among others.
He could be exactly what Nebraska football is looking for. The lineman would bring experience to a unit that needs improved play in a big way. The tackle position was held by Bryce Benhart. He struggled, but started in every game at the right tackle position. Cornelius and his experience could help a Nebraska program that is looking to right the ship for the line.
Cornelius would be an impact get for the program, as they need players that can come in and play right away. He is certainly one of the more notable names in a visitor list that keeps growing. This will be the first big visiting weekend for the new Nebraska football coaching staff. So far, it seems like they are getting impact players on the visit list. This is undoubtedly important, as the new coaching staff looks to build the program up.
