Nebraska football received another commitment on Sunday afternoon. The program landed former Florida Gators long snapper Marco Ortiz, according to a report from Brian Christopherson of 247Sports.
Ortiz comes to Lincoln with experience. He entered the transfer portal on October 26, after suffering a back injury in Florida’s season opener. He started his career as a walk-on for Florida in 2019. Ortiz quickly worked his way up the ranks, becoming the team’s starting long snapper in 2021.
He was recruited by the likes of Florida, TCU, and West Virginia. Ultimately, he chose the Gators.
Ortiz gives Nebraska yet another commitment. They landed another one on Sunday afternoon in running back Kwinten Ives, giving Nebraska their second commitment of the day and third commitment in the past week.
Currently, the 2023 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 67th overall nationally per the 247Sports Team Rankings. The addition of Ortiz gives Nebraska their first transfer commitment of this class. Nebraska’s transfer portal ranking sits at No. 45 at the moment.
It will be intriguing to see what type of skill Ortiz brings into the program. Long snapper is a key position, despite it not getting as much attention as the wide receiver position for example. The position itself is vital for special teams.
It will be intriguing to see if Nebraska football lands any other players this week. We are now beginning to see a roster take shape, as the new Nebraska football coaching staff identifies their targets and players to fill out the 2023 class.
