Nebraska football landed another commitment for the 2023 class, as offensive tackle Mason Goldman committed to the program. He made the announcement on Twitter.
Goldman is the 11th overall player in the 2023 class from the state of Nebraska per the 247Sports Rankings.
He had 14 offers in total, with Nebraska being one of them. Arizona State, Kansas, Kansas State, and Vanderbilt were some of the bigger offers for Goldman. He was officially offered by Nebraska on October 13, and received a bunch of offers in between. Goldman took a visit on December 16 and committed on Monday.
Goldman measures in at six-foot-six, 260 pounds. He has an impressive ability to stay square with his man, and uses his hands to quickly engage his defenders. Goldman does a little bit better in pass-blocking as that allows him to utilize his strength a bit better. He can run block effectively, as he reacts quickly to plays, and uses his reaction time to create holes for running backs. Goldman is still a little bit raw in terms of skill, but he does bring versatility to the table.
Currently, the 2023 Nebraska football recruiting class ranks 40th overall, with 19 commitments so far. Seven of those commitments come from the state of Nebraska. This speaks to how Matt Rhule and the rest of the Nebraska football coaching staff want to keep talent in-state. Goldman certainly fits the bill, and he could be a fixture on the Nebraska football line in the coming years.
This has been a productive couple of days for the Nebraska football program on the recruiting trail. Landing Goldman just lends credence to the fact that the program wants to get better on the line. It will be intriguing to see how he develops, as offensive line play is a hallmark of this coaching staff. With early signing day on Wednesday, we could see a couple more fireworks before the week is over.
