On Monday, the official selection of 12 jurors and 4 alternates will take place following a five-day procedure. They will be very important in deciding Read’s destiny.
On Monday morning, the prosecution and defense will each have 45 minutes to provide their opening comments. The defense intends to contend that O’Keefe’s death was caused by someone else and that Read is being set up. To emphasize the necessity of presenting evidence during the trial, the judge has barred the defense from bringing up this point during the opening comments.
Six to eight weeks of full-day sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and half-day sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays are anticipated for the trial. Keep checking back for further news and updates on this well-known case.
