Apply Now: FreshConnect CSA for SNAP Grant Program

Fantastic news for farmers in New York and SNAP recipients! The FreshConnect CSA for SNAP program is currently taking applications in the state of New York. This creative project seeks to assist local farmers and provide fresh, locally farmed produce to those utilizing SNAP assistance.

The program, which Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball announced, aims to lower the cost of Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares for SNAP recipients. This initiative is in line with Governor Kathy Hochul’s resolve to increase the accessibility of fresh food for all New Yorkers and to promote the state’s agricultural products.

Commissioner Ball emphasized the program’s twin purpose: we want to support the farmers who raise the food while making sure that underprivileged populations have access to wholesome, locally sourced food. To combine these benefits, the FreshConnect CSA for SNAP program is a great option.

How the Program Works

Funding applications are available for qualifying organizations, including local governments, educational institutions, tribal governments, and not-for-profits, to assist in lowering the cost of weekly CSA shares for SNAP beneficiaries. As a result, farmers get paid the full worth of their produce while SNAP recipients can enjoy an abundance of fresh vegetables at a reduced rate.

Program Objectives:

  • Support Local Farmers: By increasing access to CSA shares, the program helps farmers reach more customers across New York.
  • Provide Fresh Food: SNAP participants get weekly shares of fresh, nutritious produce, enhancing their access to healthy food.
  • Build Community Awareness: The program aims to strengthen community bonds and highlight the variety of New York-grown produce.
